It’s a rare moment when a world opens up to you that you hadn’t seen- or accepted- before. When someone recognizes a potential in you that you hadn’t noticed yourself.
It’s happened to me twice, this kind of distinct, forever memorable moment.
The first was as a rebellions seventeen year old** being called by a teacher I barely knew. She handed me the title for a regional essay contest held by a Japanese University on ‘young visions for a future worthy of humanity’.
“Write,” she said, “and hand it to me by day after.”
That’s all she said.
Somehow I understood in that moment that she was opening a door for me to something I would thrive on but had not seen for myself. The second time was today, talking to @Barb Patterson. We all have people and moments like that.
When one comes along, you recognize it by the clear RING it has- the directness of instruction, the lack of clutter, the goosebumps from sudden stillness.
“All of us, whether or not we are warriors, have a cubic centimeter of chance that pops out in front of our eyes from time to time. The difference between an average man and a warrior is that the warrior is aware of this, and one of his tasks is to be alert, deliberately waiting, so that when his cubic centimeter pops out he has the necessary speed, the prowess, to pick it up.”
**Even though I no longer slam doors quite as much as I used to, the rebelliousness has somehow endured and found more socially acceptable arenas like entrepreneurship
